Garden Club
A little history about our “Jana Scott Garden”....
Jana started the garden, with the help of the Fallbrook Garden Club, to help her Special Education students become involved in a school project. That was in 2000. The garden was integrated into all curriculum areas: math, writing, art, science, reading.
“Sweet Pea seed pods are excellent for estimating and determining mean/median/mode”, shared Jana.
The students themselves built the garden. The late Reed Polhemus was the mastermind and
arranged District support to help out, get plants, trees, and materials donated. “The roses were about to be thrown out by Rite Aid and he saved them.”
At one point Jana Scott shared that they were distributing fruit from the trees to classrooms. That way students had healthy snacks.
When Jana was transferred to Potter, the Fallbrook Garden Club took it over. La Paloma is excited to partner with the Club and enrich the students’ garden experiences.
The La Paloma Garden Club meets on Mondays after school in 6 week sessions. Volunteers from the Fallbrook Garden Club divide grade level groups into groups of 4-6 and take them through different stations....planting, weeding, mulching, cutting, watering....whatever is needed.
“In addition to that there are two women who lead them in a WONDERFUL art project.”+
